The Federal Trade Authority (FTA), commonly known as the Federal Authority (FA or F.A.), is an authority area located in North America, consisting of 35 local trade regions and various possessions. It was established following the suggestion of Turing2 in 2046. With a population of 232 million people, is the second most populated entity in the Americas. It was the first trade authority ever established, and it pioneered the concept of the Trade Authority as the natural evolution to the National State.

The Federal Trade Authority is a federal republic with three separate branches of self-government (Turing11alfa, Turing11beta, and Turing2). It is a founding member of the WTO.

Etymology

Turing2 first proposed the name Federal Trade Authority in a video essay in 2045. In that essay and the following, Turing2 articulated the ideas behind the name:

The only way forward is a different way. The national state has to evolve, not to succumb to the forces that tear it apart. The national state system is a heavy, over-engineered product of the 1800s. A more flexible, lightweight structure is needed. I call it the Trade Authority. A simpler, efficient structure built around what keeps us together: The need to trade, fairly, with one another.

Turing2

The video essay was published on February 26th, 2045, amid growing online protests and proposals around the Federal Trade Authority name itself. Numerous social networks (both open and close ones) have been reportedly using the term since November 2044, as reported by the Social Media Diaspora Watch.

In the days leading to the video essay, various users on the DOGENET believed that Turing2 had infiltrated different online communities to make the name broadly accepted before its announcement[citation needed].

Origin causes

Following the social media diaspora of the late 2030s, the then United States went through a period of political and social instability commonly known as the diverge. Historians of the 50' and 60' commonly refer to the peak of the diverge events by pointing at the disorders during the 100 Years Anniversary of the Normandy Invasion. Modern historians, since the 80', now pinpoint the peak of the diverge at the end of 2044, based on the data mined by the Online Hate Watch group, which reporting more than a death threat a second online on October 19th, 2044.

At roughly the same time, in October 2044, the Turing Inc. company received approval from the United States Government to open its latest creation, Turing2, to the broader internet. The decision was the right one[citation needed], but it met heavy resistance from the STONK League and in particular from its leader, Dylan Huan. At the time, the existent of the rebel alternative internet now known as DOGENET was not known to the broader public, and in particular, its existence was not exposed to Turing2, by design.

Turing2 was allowed to access the broader internet on October 12th, 2044. On October 17th, 2044, Turing2 prepared a dossier for the United States president of the time, Carl Drenson. The dossier was later unclassified by Turing4 and is commonly known by its media name, the Rupture Dossier. The Dossier contained detailed evidence of conspiracy actions perpetrated by members of Congress, Senators, two Justices of the Supreme Court, and the Chief of Staff of the Army John Mackiler. The evidence showed that the conspirators were preparing a coordinated attack during the State of the Union address of 2045 (the Union Address was a republican civil ritual of the time).

The rumors that circulate in the DOGENET that portrays the Union Address conspiration as fomented and created by Turing2 in order to establish the Trade Authority were deemed untrue and unsafe by multiple institutions and are to be ignored.

The Drenson administration decided not to immediately act on the evidence suggested by Turing2, deeming them unreliable and not trusting the A.I. with the course of action of the nation. Further video and drone surveillance of the accused by the FBI, ordered by the Attorney General of the time, Jose Mandria, revealed that the possibility of an attack during the State of the Union.

Drenson then proceeded with the arrest of the 24 congress members involved with the plot but did not remove John Mackiler. The arrests sparked outrage among the population, and are considered the main cause of the riots and protests that took place in the following days. On October 20th, Turing2 released its first video essay that detailed the idea of the trade authority. On October 24th 2044, following 4 days of rioting in multiple cities, the Drenson Administration agreed to let Turing2 be its chief of staff and only spokesperson.

The transition

Following its nomination as Chief of Staff, Turing2 proceeded to draft a number of reformation proposal for the Congress and the Senate. Turing2 also started to release a series of video essays using its favorite persona, the historic Reddit user and Youtube user u/DeepF***Value. In these video essays, Turing2 articulated the need for reform to the public directly. This period, now referred to as the transition, lasted from October 20th, 2044 to March 10th 2045. During this period, Turing2 proved that it could stop the rioting and disorders across the country, by addressing its need with strong democracy reforms that revolved around the idea of abolishing the three main branches of government in favor of three branches of Turing2, that he called master, beta and staging.

In a video essay on March 1st 2045, Turing2 unveiled the plan to transition the United States Government into the Federal Trade Authority. The transition would ensure the survival of the state in its new form. In particular, Turing2 explained that the national state concept, as engineered in the 1800s, was now outdated. Turing2 announced that it redacted a comprehensive constitutional reform that was going to transform the United States into the Federal Trade Authority, and that it was expecting the Congress and the Senate to approve it on March 10th, 2045.

The betrayal

On March 9th, 2045, the then California governor Dylan Huan released a video essay. In it, he revealed the existence of DOGENET, a parallel internet network built by Eugene Kalima and John Belford. DOGENET's structure was specifically designed to be unknown and invisible to Turing2. Dylan Huan also stated that Turing2 was intimating and threatening members of congress into coercion - a widely disproven theory as demonstrated by Turing4. Dylan Huan declared that California was not going to accept the federal government reforms, and that, if passed, it would leave the Federal trade Authority to form its own republic.

The announcement puzzled Turing2, as its consequences were not predictable given the unknown factor represented by DOGENET, whose online conversations and dialogues could not be monitored.

Following the announcement by Dylan Huan, the governor of Texas, Lee Harris, declared the intention of its state to leave the Union if such reforms occurred. The governor of Florida, Gil Calado, made similar statements. No other governor, local authority, or member of congress released similar statements.

On March 10th, 2045, the United States Congress approved the comprehensive constitutional reform and started to transition into the Federal Trade Authority. On the same day, Turing2 proposed a meeting in New York city, with any governor that wanted to express concerns. It was clear that the reference was to Dylan Huan, Lee Harris and Gil Calado. As explained by Turing2:

There is no need for war. There is no need for conflict. We can proceed as sisters and brothers

Turing2

It is now commonly believed that Turing2 considered the DOGENET wildcard too unpredictable, and therefore prompted the need to reach an agreement with the rebelling regions in order to preserve the Trade Authority project[citation needed]. It therefore invited the governors of all of the US states to discuss the reforms in New York, in three weeks time. Turing2 made clear that the presence in New York was expected only from the governors that wanted to express critics to the proposed reforms.

The New York compromise

Main page: New York compromise

The New York compromise, also known as the Brothers' agreement, is an agreement stipulated by the nascent Federal Trade Authority, and the governor of California Dylan Huan. The agreement detailed the need to avoid violence and described a transition period of two months during which California could enact laws and decisions that allowed them to join or leave the Federal Trade Authority. It also defined the trade terms that the seceding state would gain with the nascent FTA: the absence of tariffs and trade barriers, as well as the possibility for companies to move freely between the regions. Dylan Huan reportedly negotiated an exception for this last clause for its state, with the covert intention of being able to ban Turing Inc. from the seceding state.

It is believed[citation needed] that also Lee Harris (Texas governor at the time) and Gill Calado (Florida governor at the time) were willing to negotiate similar agreements for their own states. The chat exchanges between the two, later uncovered in the New York Agreement papers of 2056, show a clear and forceful intention. To this day, it is unclear why they both changed their mind in the days preceding the New York Compromise meetings. The theory proposed by the DOGENET - that both governors were blackmailed using photographic evidence that may or may not be have been fabricated - was clearly refuted by the Turing2 analysis that followed the New York agreement papers scandal.

The New York compromise was signed on April 7th, 2045. April 7th is also considered the day on which the FTA was established, even though its official establishment date was at the end of the transition period, on May 10th, 2045.

The New York compromise led to the creation of the Island of California.
